Why is the AMC app not working?

When I got to open AMC it won’t open and takes me back to the home screen. All other apps are working fine. Any suggestions?  Is this a problem with the App or my device? I have deleted and reloaded the AMC app to my Roku device and it did not solve the problem.

  • I have Roku 4K Streaming Stick+, latest operating system. I also have older Rokus. The AMC channel suddenly quit a few days ago, just on the 4K stick. Would not start, just trashed out and went back to Roku home screen.   I tried the usual reset and uninstall/reinstall.  No good.

I did a full reset the Roku to factory default this morning and let it rebuild all my existing channels. AMC starts up and streams fine now. I am on Spectrum cable, in case that's relevant. I think that will have y'all up and running ASAP.

  • We were having the same problems. Desperate to watch Better Call Saul and multiple reinstalls and reboots to no avail. Refuse to do a factory reset. AMC tech support hasn't gotten back to me in 4 days.

But - I found a workaround. I searched for Saul from the Roku home screen and followed the links to the new season on AMC. It successfully linked to the new episodes within the AMC app.

The first time it gave me an internet connection timeout but I persisted and the second time was a complete success.

Tried that method with TWD.  It opened the AMC app briefly then went right back to the Roku home screen. Trying to avoid doing the whole reset.

Reset seems to be the only thing that works. Took me about an hour to activate every app again. Pain in the ass.

Did factory reset and immediately tried to reinstall and open it, still won't open.

So I had the same issue as everyone else on my Roku Premiere 4k. The firmware was 9.3x and up to date. Did the painful factory reset and restored all my channels to only find it would not still work after re-installing AMC. I did a little research on how to downgrade the firmware and found the "secret" code to get into the system. I did a downgrade to 9.2 and the App now opens. I did it as a test, but trying to turn off the auto updates in there as well. Not sure if it will work. Will check back in 24hrs or so.

  • I have the same issue.  It has not worked itself out and I have sent feedback multiple times with no change in the result.

Good to know I am not the only one having problems.  I was hoping to find a solution here.  I’ll check back in a few days

I have that problem with AMC Plus on Roku. I've contacted the AMC Plus tech support and they are trying to fix it.

  • Suddenly my AMC channel will not launch, even after re-installing.  Is anyone else having this issue?

When you reinstalled, did you follow the following procedure?

      1. Highlight channel on home screen.
      2. Press * key and choose Remove channel option.
      3. IMPORTANT- DON"T SKIP: From home screen, Settings > System > System restart. This assures no remnant of the old installation remains in the Roku's memory.
      4. After system restarts, find channel via Streaming Channels.
      5. Highlight channel and install.
      6. If channel requires a login, you may need to log in anew.

Followed these instructions exactly and the channel still exits after launching. I'm on the 9.3 beta.

Yes, that problem that spontaneously cropped up on only my Roku 4K Streaming Stick+ with latest OS.   I am on Spectrum cable and Internet.   The AMC app was previously running flawlessly, and was authorized, and had the correct login information, etc. but suddenly would just not start up.  It would trash out and  loop back to the Roku Home screen.

After trying less drastic fixes, like restart, clear cache, and remove/reinstall the channel, I finally resorted to a complete reset to factory defaults.   (You will need Internet access and email to do this!!)   That purges any patches or incomplete updates in the operating system and proceeds directly to the latest version.  Once you log in and it "creates" your account on that Roku device,  It will give you the option to either put back all the channels you had, or start fresh.    You will need to Activate all independent channels that are tied to your cable subscription and that require a separate login.    This is not the first time I've had to reset one of my Roku devices to factory default to clear up some login problem involving Spectrum cable service.   However, a reset to factory default has fixed the problem every time.

eta:   I have 4 different models of Roku devices made 2016 to current.  The Roku Streaming Stick+ 4K is the ONLY one that developed a problem with the AMC channel.  eta:  The only Roku, this time.  I've previously had the same issue with some of the others.  I suspect corrupted or incomplete updates are to blame.  But I don't really know.

The factory reset fixed the problem. Thanks for the info. Re-setup was easier than what I was expecting.

I'm having the same issue, and I've restarted my roku, uninstalled the channel, re-installed it, unplugged it, and still nothing. I also sent feedback. It was working fine prior to this.

The issue was it needed to be reset several times and got tonthenpint where it physically made me reauthorize it and it worked took me days though

  • Same problem here and I have tried everything I can think of.

  • Yes, I am having the same problem. I've removed and installed numerous times. Restarted my tv numerous times. Still nothing, very frustrating! No one seems to have an answer.

Same problem here.  How brilliant of them to screw up the app right as they have two of their biggest shows starting back up.

  • This happens occasionally with Channels. Usually it irons itself out in time. You must already subscribe to AMC through another provider to get it. Let them know. Highlight the Channel in Home press the Star key and send feedback.

The app is free but you have to pay for the movies like you would be at the theater. Rent or Buy them.

What finally worked for me was a complete refresh which is a total pain. Then when I tried to activate, the website was broken. It is working now, however. My guess is a bad update patch. They seem technically challenged.
