Watching HBO Max causes Roku to overheat

It happens when I watch Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon.

  • Hi Fangirl_84,

Thanks for your first post in the Roku Community!

We'd like to better understand what's happening here. What device are you using to stream Max?

If you're using a Streaming Stick, please power it via the wall and not via USB to see if that helps. Also, grab a free HDMI extender from Free HDMI® extender.

Sometimes, the extender, by placing space between the TV and the streaming player, will help dissipate any extra heat from the TV.

If you're using a different Roku device, ensure it isn't sitting on top of it and isn't in a cabinet. If it's on top of another electronic item that could be getting warm, like a cable box, try to place it somewhere else.

Resource: What to do if the red light is on or you see a Your device is overheating.

Let us know if you are still encountering an issue after performing the steps above.

    Warm regards,
    Chel

Our roku is suddenly overheating - but only when watching Max.  It doesn’t overheat with any other app. Seemed to coincide with the new max rollout?
