Roku Ultra cracking sound when in passthrough

Hello 

I have Roku Utra 4800X connected via HDMI 2.1 (48Gb) to the AVR receiver (Sony STR-AN1000) via media box input (4K/120). The Roku  Ultra software version is 14.1. Then I have 75' Sony HDR TV connected to the AVR via eARC. The AVR is set to AFD (auto-frequency-decoder) which plays sound based on the stream. The Roku audio setting is in passthrough. 

Whenever I switched apps in the Roku or within the app (Netflix, Hulu, etc..) it starts auto play the trailer of the movies I am browsing, the Roku produces a cracking / popping sound. Once I select the movie I have no issues but the issue occurs when moving from movie to movie and starts playing the trailer.

Seems like when playing the trailer the audio signal is PCM 2.0 (from the display of AVR)  so not sure whether the crackiling sound occurs when switching signal from 2 ch stereo to DD+ or Atmos. 

The issue doesn't occour when I play Netlflix/Huly cia TV native app. 

Any ideas on how to solve this? If I change Roku setting to Auto, it stops the cracking sound but I noticed lower sound quality. Passthrough is much better & clearer sorrund  with AVR do the upmixing.

    I totally get that you're having trouble with the audio of your Roku Ultra, which is having a cracking sound when the audio output is set to auto, and I'd like to take a closer look at this. 

    Tell me more about it!

    • Is this the first time that this issue has occurred? If not, did this happen after an update?
    • What steps have you taken so far?
    • Is this only happening on Netflix and Hulu, or have you also observed this behavior on other apps?

      Hello 

      Sorry for my late reply. I thought somehow I already responded. My bad.  Answering your questions

      1.-  It is the 1st time that is happening as now I am connecting roku directly to the AVR (previous setting was thru TV dig output)

      2.- I have tried to change settings in my AVR from auto-decoding to DD+ or DTX but doesn't work. Also I noticed that even with AVR on stand-by (so passthru mode) the issue persists on the TV speakers. 

      3.- It is not on Hulu or Netflix but in all apps. It is everytime there is trailer playing or some sort ot audio conversion.

        Thanks for the effort you put in to get all that detailed info. Do you happen to have another TV we could try out to see if the problem still occurs?
