First, some AVRs have more than one HDMI output jack, but only one supports ARC, so make sure you're in the correct one there. I can't recall exactly what is in a Roku TV audio settings (the only TV I have is in full time use as a computer monitor by my daughter) but you usually need to select where the audio output goes (speakers, optical, HDMI/ARC, etc.) I don't have a Sony AVR, but I seem to recall that my Yamahas have a setting to enable ARC as well, so check the settings on both devices.

Try refreshing the cec devices in the Roku tv settings.
Settings> system> control other devices> search cec devices> follow prompts

The hdmi is plugged into the ARC on both
I’ve turned on the hdmi port on the AVR and I’ve set the audio on the tv to ARC 1
so far no sound

Did try the steps in my post? You last post didn't mention cec, so you might not have seen my post at all?
