Roku streaming stick channel freezing

I am using my Roku stick on my portable setup because my large tv died. I've not used this setup much, but it worked OK in the spare bedroom. Now that I have it in the livingroom, I am trying to stream movies and shows. It is like watching a slideshow. Every few seconds a still photo, once in a while a couple seconds of streaming. The sound is doing fine and is continuous. I even dropped 1080p to 720p, but that made no difference.
Roku Stick Model: 3810X
What is going on, and how could I fix this?

  • Recently, we have had a similar issue with our 3 Roku sticks.  In most cases, the video didn’t sync with the audio.  In another, the video froze while the audio continued.  When we set the Roku display resolution back down to 720, the problem went away.  Nevertheless, we moved away from Roku to apps that our smart tv has.  They don’t have the same issues.

The disassociation of audio and video was happening on three different Roku sticks in three very different TVs.  In all cases, it was happening when using Roku to connect to Hulu and streaming MSNBC.  In all cases, changing the display to manual and 720 solved the problem.
