Roku home screen ads with sound

Received another one of the homescreen ads with sound - not Moana this time; I neither recall nor care what it was. I immediately purchased a GoogleTV device. It stinks but it doesn't have ads with sound, just static pictures which at least I can deal with and aren't so distracting.

After learning about the pause screen ads, I realized this was the correct decision. So I unplugged the last of my Rokus today, all replaced with other non-Roku devices. The players will all go to e-recycling at some point; I'm not giving these perfectly fine, working devices to anyone because I don't want to direct anyone's eyes to Roku, ever. I'm done with the company for good if they can't figure out that they've already ruined customer relations with, hopefully, a sizable portion of their actual userbase. Maybe this doesn't matter to shareholders (yet!) but the eroded trust, devaluing of customer experience, naively egregious childlike boundary testing, and constant stream of meaningless nonsense & obvious lies from Roku and Their Wonderful CEO Who Should Definitely Keep Talking will add up. Eventually. Hopefully.

Congratulations to Roku! You've driven away a customer of 15 years. If other community members read this: please ditch your Roku devices if you can. Do not buy a Roku-branded/-embedded television if at all possible. The only way publicly traded companies learn is by damage to their bottom line. I'm just one person, I don't expect to have any impact whatsoever, but the bee ess this company is pulling on its customers will only get worse if it's not nipped in the bud by some drastic behavioral modification. I will not be party to it, I won't purchase anything from Roku, and I will not recommend any Roku device to anyone. Instead I'll encourage them to look elsewhere and tell them exactly why.

Yours,

 -r
