Removing the ‘original account’ from an old Roku

I have an older roku that I ‘inherited’, but i cant seem to clear iut the initial login/email of the original owner.  Anytime i add a new app it automatically tries to use that initial login/email   Is there a way to clear it out?  Yes, I realize that if there is a way to do it, it will likely wipe out everything new ive added ,too, but that’s ok.

    To ensure you factory reset the device correctly, you can follow these steps:

    1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
    2. . Go to "Settings."
    3.  Select "System."
    4. Click on "Advanced system settings."
    5. Choose "Factory reset."

    Thanks for reaching out regarding your concern with using an older Roku account.

    For this matter, the step provided by Strega2​ is the best action to take. It is recommended to remove the original user's account by factory resetting the device so you can activate it again using your Roku account or email address.

      I’ve tried that several times, it hasn't removed the original account.  Thank you for the prompt response.

  • You should do a factory reset.  (Really the original owner should have done that before disposing of it. Remember that before you ever dispose of a Roku - especially if you have a payment method on your account!)
