Randomly having to reset device to recover audio

Starting a week or so ago, audio began glitching on various channels. First noticed while watching bike racing replays on Max, when audio would gradually start distorting like it was being overdriven. We fixed this each time by exiting and then resuming the stream, whereupon audio would go back to normal.

In the last couple of days, audio is sometimes totally absent when starting a stream on Max, YouTube, and other channels. Not always — it seems to be random. We are currently fixing this by going to Home Screen --> Settings --> System Restart, which restores the audio at that point until it happens again.

Also, the Roku menu sounds (bleeps and boops, etc.) always work, even when stream audio is malfunctioning.

Device: Roku Ultra 4660X

Software: 14.5

  • I’m having that same issue with my 58” Hisense smart tv. Upon calling and chatting with customer support, they are aware of this and the only temporary fix is to do what you already did until the new software update. If needed, first system restart then if that doesn’t work, you can unplug for 30-60 seconds or force restart the app. Apparently if you have peacock, this has happened when after watching then going to a different app it causes the no audio.

Thanks for that update. Both times it's happened to me was switching to another app after watching something on Peacock. Hopefully they get that fixed soon.

Also, if you make sure to turn off true volume and or dts virtual x in the custom sound settings and just choose standard for sound mode, it’s apparently a temporary work around too. Working so far.

  • Same problem. About 4 days ago after leaving one app for another sometimes the sound would not work. It still works for moving around the Roku menus but no audio from the streaming service.

Very annoying! Have to exit and go to the power menu and select restart to get it to work again.

  • Same here. Started yesterday. Audio is working fine. Switch to another app and audio is gone. Power on and off does not fix it.  Have to do a full system restart. Roku TV Pro series with software version 14.5.
I have a Bose Smart Ultra soundbar connected via HDMI to the eArc port.
