Pluto TV crashing on both of my Roku devices

Pluto TV has been crashing every time I try the app today. It acts like it’s opening, but then goes back to the Roku Home Screen. I have an Onn. Roku TV and a Roku Express 4k + and Pluto is doing this on both devices. I have updated both Rokus, the Pluto TV channel itself, deleted and reinstalled the channel, reset my internet connection (internet is just fine) and did a factory reset on. I’ve performed all of these steps on both devices, but PlutoTV still doesn’t work. PlutoTV says there are not outages. What could I possibly do to resolve this issue?

  • Hi 45six ejmorgan55

Thanks for the posts regarding channel playback on Pluto TV.

It looks like there may have been a service interruption yesterday that seems to be resolved now. We would recommend checking to see if you are still experiencing an issue with playing content on Pluto TV at this time.

Please keep us posted what you find out and we'll be happy to assist you further if you are still experiencing an issue.

    Thanks,
    Danny

  • We have 2 Roku Players that suddenly stopped loading the Pluto Channel .

I have followed the recommendations.  Checked for updates, removed reinstalled channel .rebooted the modem router. The issue started today all other channels load correctly. Since this is happening on all players I dont feel sound a factory reset would benefit. Is Pluto having a issue? Very frustrating as I watch pluto most of the time. Please help!!

I’m having the same issue. Was watching something downstairs last night, went upstairs and several minutes later when I turn on the tv, Pluto wouldn’t load. Right in the middle of a Wild, Wild West episode I’ve only seen 23 times!

Pluto did have some issues a week or so ago along with an outage that was affecting a fair number of Pluto users on Roku, but I think most of those have been resolved.

Try restarting your Roku device between the removal and reinstallation of Pluto TV in order to clear out any corrupted cache.

The correct procedure for removing and reinstalling channels on a Roku device are...

      1. Remove the channel/app

      2. Restart the Roku device or RokuTV (Settings/System/Power/System Restart).  On older Roku devices, Settings/System/System Restart.

      3. Reinstall the channel/app.

       ----

If still having issues feel free to report back with the Roku model numbers from Settings/System/About as well as your Roku Software version and build.

    awheeler8u-

After removing a channel, best practice is to restart your Roku to clear its memory cache before reinstalling the channel. Without the restart you may not get a clean reinstall.

Depending on your Roku model and Roku version number you'll find the System restart option under either Settings > System > Power or under Settings > System.

Thank you for replying. The steps you listed are the ones I’ve been using when removing and reinstalling the channel, but it continues to do the same thing. I’m not having any issues with the Pluto TV app on my tablet or phone, but it still isn’t working on both of my Roku products.

I'm having the same issue since yesterday and tried all those steps as well without success. Did you ever solve the problem?

  • Pluto tv app not opening on my roku device. I have 2 devices on 2 different tvs and neither are working. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, reset roku device, unplugged tvs, unplugged routers, did everything under the sun EXCEPT factory reset and still not working! Started on 2/28/23

  • Same issue.  You've got plenty of device id's and versions so I'm not going to post that.

I am going to say that this may be intentional on the part of Roku.  They may be going to boost use of The Roku Channel, which is a direct competitor with Pluto TV.  Seems really desperate.  I think i may just go spend the $29 for the "Chromecast with Google TV"... It's really good and Google doesn't need to resort to petty tricks like it seems Roku is.

That being said, fix the issue

Just talks me into not bothering investing in another Roku device anything. This is absurd to not want to acknowledge there is an issue, when there are 5 pages of complaints here alone.

Chromecast could be a option, or playing from your PC is another.

FYI, I contacted Pluto about the issue and they said they are aware of the issue and are working to resolving it.

I am having this exact same issue on multiple Roku devices. Here's what is known at this time:

Forced an update check by using " * " key. All up to date with version 5.24 Build 1.

    Rebooted all devices.

Uninstalled "Pluto TV" from all devices and rebooted again.

    Reinstalled "Pluto TV."

Forced a check on Roku device updates. All up to date with Roku Software Version 11.5.0 Build 5412-46.

Only Pluto TV is at issue. All other channels work fine on all of the Roku devices.

Internet connection is just over 1 Gig Down and 39 Mbps up on Spectrum.

Devices are mixed internet connected, wired and WiFi (all 5 bars).

Other streaming apps on Android do work, without fail.

Pluto's internet feed/site and app works great on both Spectrum and Buckeye TeleSystem, just not on Roku.

Pluto TV is saying nothing about any outages on Twitter or Facebook. They are not answering DM's either. Silence is toxic for them.

The issue started last night after 6 pm eastern.

Do I need to add any other info that is not posted here? Maybe you Roku peeps can get a better handle on this, as affidavits (for streaming commercial spots) and legalities with those affs are present. We ask, but no answers from the channel content provider.

I noticed this on Thur 3/2.  None of the rokustick (3 devices) and 1 roku TV that I have has access to pluto TV.

It works fine on my LG tv through webos, & on website - this shows it's not at the pluto tv end.

Tried all the recommendations. (remove app, restart, power off, install app), check for updates, and even factory reset didn't do anything.

It starts the app, few seconds later "crashes" back to main screen. Nothing has changed since the problem began

It's pathetic that these "support" staff recommend same "troubleshoot tips" when it's clearly not the issue/solution.  It's like they're deaf to people saying there's something wrong.

Definitely has to do with plutotv app & roku system.

CloudKicker  Notice nobody of the "staff" is now speaking to anyone about this? The customer is apparently NEVER RIGHT, contrary to business teachings.

  • I’m having the same issue as well.  Mine started yesterday, March 13th.  I have two Rokus…one the Roku Streambar and the other is the Roku Express.  Pluto TV works fine on my LG TV,iPad, PC, etc.  Both Roku devices are updated, as is the Pluto app.  Please fix the problem Roku, as your company seems to be the only one with the issue.

Just select the Pluto TV app (channel), click “ok” and watch it CRASH.  It’s not on us customers.  It works on other streaming services.  It doesn’t work on ROKU.
