PBS kids app server error

For the past few days my PBS kids app won’t stream live tv. It gives a “server error” prompt. I can stream just fine on my phone and other non Roku devices. Is there some sort of glitch or is something not communicating properly anymore? I used to be able to stream live on my Roku just fine.

  • I have the same issue. Live TV streaming just shows a "server error" for about a week now.

    Tried the steps you laid out and still has the same error.

      It’s keep saying server issue. It’s been like this for over a month. I can watch PBS Kids in my living room live with no problem. But on the Roku tv I can not. I have done all of these steps and it seems to be a lot of us having the same issue.

    weirdingways455, your device is obsolete and has been for a while now.  It's no longer receiving updates and can't run the latest software or apps.  I don't think your problem is the same as others in this thread.  In your case, if the PBS app needs an update to continue working there's no way to get it.

      Thank you for your response.

      Pragmatic question: EOL and EOS

      Why purchase "newer" Roku devices when Roku top-of-the-line products' work just fine?

      These devices work w/all premium apps except PBS - 'publicly funded.'

      "Legacy: Roku has discontinued these models, and they cannot support newer versions of the Roku OS." See: Roku Developer - Legacy models 4400X"

      https://developer.roku.com/docs/specs/hardware.md

      If Roku has declared "End-of-Life" (EOL) notice, apparently integrated and implemented a "planned obsolescence" strategy as part of a business model to generate more profit and compel consumers to keep purchasing newer and "updatable" models of their products that is their business.

      Apparently; ROKU does not provide legacy support to developers.

      Apparently; ROKU keeps generating new products w/new EOS dates.

      Result: Support Request Not Solved.

      Notation: Forum is limited in scope for general support questions.

      EOL = End-of-Life

      EOS = End-of-Support

      NOTE: PBS has been notified 'PBS APP subscription' will be [cancelled.]

  • For Roku TVs... Check your zip code under Settings -> System -> Zip code to make sure it is correct for your area.  Correct it then restart/reboot your TV. It should then work. At least is does for us.

    If is not correct for your area then the PBS Kids app will hang on the yellow screen or generate a 'server error'. It appears that the PBS Kids app needs to have the local zip code and local IP location aligned so that the streaming from the correct PBS station can occur.

    I have had this problem on the Roku TVs but not on the Streaming devices or Roku App. Sometimes after a system update the zip code (only set on my Roku TVs) is reset to some random zip code and needs to be corrected for the kids to watch PBS kids.

      Gave it a shot for good measure, didn't work on either the Roku-based TV, nor the TV with the Roku StreamStick 4K.  When PBS Kids fires up, it tells you which affiliate it's going through, and it's still the correct one, so location isn't the issue, unfortunately.

        Sorry to hear that. When I do finally get the correct affiliate to show on the start-up splash it took a couple of attempts, but eventually started to update the local cache and start streaming.

        Sorry to hear it did not work for you.
