Yes, Newsmax is now a subscription service. They have updated their Roku app to support logging in with your subscription credentials. Make sure your app has been updated.
If you have not subscribed yet, make sure you subscribe directly with Newsmax. If you subscribe through Roku or some other 3rd party you won't have access to your subscription of every possible device, and some have reported issues trying to log in.

If I pay directly to Newsmax, how do I watch on Roku? How does Newsmax know I want to watch on Roku and how does that happen?

Yep now $4.99 per month or $49.99 year the way I did it was I logon on to my Roku account updated my banking info. Add channel they recommend removing old app 1st or check by right click app & select upgrade. Also I would double check to see if you are using Roku latest software ok

I tried updating but no success. It accepts my log in and password but says I still owe money. I paid the yearly price but it does not acknowledge I paid it. Roku acknowledges the payment. so I put a dispute complaint in to my credit card company for a refund. Tired of dancing with all these companys.

Remember something about credit card disputes. They might refund the money initially, but they then research (with the assistance of the charging company) if it was a legitimate charge. If they determine it's legit, then they charge you again for the full amount.
I rented a car out of LAX for work purposes, and used my government travel card. The first day I had the car I had problems, and on the day I was supposed to return it to LAX it completely died on me. I had contacted the rental company multiple times throughout the week, and again when it died. I was in Palmdale, almost three hours away from LAX, and our flight was mid-afternoon. The rental company sent a tow truck to pick up the car, but said they could not get a replacement car to me. They offered a Lyft coupon to take the three of us back to LAX, but every driver refused the trip. We finally got a ride to LAX, but it cost an additional amount. And that rental company still charged the government the full cost of the rental. I attempted to dispute the charge, but the bank sided with the rental company, claiming I still had the rental car for the week. We still had to pay the bill.
