Movieland channel removed and I'm very upset

Movieland channel has been removed and I for one and heartsick and very upset, the movies on that channel should be available, I think it's ridiculous and greedy to keep movies that old from the general public. Shame on Roku and on anyone else that thinks that channel should have been removed, if the copyright wasn't available it should be some of those movies are older than I am and Im in the Senior category. I am just disgusted and disappointed at the general direction that Roku seems to be taking these days, they allow a 300$ screensaver to exist but remove a much loved channel of old classic movies where is the balance?!

  • Your missing the point, I'm not asking "You" for a dissertation, And your answer is irrelevant to me and the point I'm making.

We understand that you've had a great experience with the Movieland channel. Kindly be advised that channels on the Roku platform are maintained and developed by the channel providers themselves. You can reach out to Movieland and inquire further about the status and availability of their channel on Roku.

If there's anything we can further assist you with aside from this, please let us know.

    All the best,
    Kash

  • The Movieland channel was available three weeks ago again, I loaded and started watching movies again

for about three weeks. Four days ago I went back to watch the channel it was removed again, The one thing I notice it had no commercials. I like the channel so much I would be willing to pay a monthly fee for it or watch the commercials.  Roku please bring it back!!!

And again, the fact you have movies under copyright with no commercials should be a GIANT red flag that there is something sketchy going on.

Read the previous posts. Roku won't bring it back if they are breaking the law.

    Hello Seashelli

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community!

At times, our content providers may choose to remove their channel from our platform at their own request. In other cases, a channel may be removed by us if it violates our terms and conditions. We take reports of piracy or any other unlawful activity very seriously.

For more information, please see our support page here: Why is a channel no longer available on my Roku® streaming device?

    I hope this helps!

    Warm regards,
    Lianna

This was a great channel and it showed limited commercials unlike PLUTO or CRACKLE.  At least 'Clockwork Orange' is on HBO but Éasy Rider' I am not sure where that one is or 'The Great Train Robbery'.

Based on JustWatch, Easy Rider is only rent/buy. The Great Train Robbery shows up as a 2 part TV series on Roku Channel, Pluto TV and others. The 1903 silent movie doesn't show up, but it is public domain as it's before 1928.

Should add you can find many copies of the 1903 movie on YouTube.

  • 'Movieland.tv' and sister app 'Cinema Box' returned 7-18-23, Yay - search in apps under classic tv (but only few movies, maybe rebuilding)

        Anjeli,

One moderator's answer to this question was that we should reach out to Movieland TV directly. That might be useful if you provided any kind of contact information for Movieland TV. If they have contact information listed online, they hide it very well.

I've had multiple channels playing hide-and-seek this year (switching between available and not available), but Movieland TV is the most important one.

Some people talking about this in other places are under the impression that Movieland TV is actually owned/operated by Roku.

In any case, I'm one of many Roku users that is very unhappy that access to this channel is gone AGAIN. Please work with them to restore access.

Oh, and stop those annoying Home Screen ads in the lower left corner of the screen! We hate those!

        Thanks.

  • There is another large thread about this. Basically, just because a movie is "old" doesn't mean it's free. Copyrights for movies are typically 95 years. That means only movies made in 1928 or earlier are automatically public domain. It would be extremely rare for a movie to be put into public domain by it's owners, and that would probably be some sub-B-grade movie made by somebody with their own money. Most any studio movie will retain copyright as long as possible.

I like how you can enter one letter in the search box to browse around. Deja Vu (that's a hint).

Wonder how much illegal content has been removed? Or did they just somehow sneak back in? Or did they get the proper rights, but now have more commercials to pay for it?

The content seems to be the same as before. I watched a couple movies and they had no commercials
