After doing this "I rebooted the device and then I pressed and held the reset button for 10 seconds each time, 7 times with less than 3 seconds in between", I was brought to the initial setup screen. I input my credentials and the device did a software update, then restarted. I had to complete registration online, but the device is now working as before!
