MLBTV freezing during commercials

A few days ago while watching MLBTV on the MLBTV app for Roku the screen would freeze up during commercials. This condition has been going on now for several days when watching any game on any team feed.  This occurs on almost every commercial break either during the game or pregame show.  The screen freeze lasts for several seconds on both Roku devices that I have tried.  Eventually it will correct itself but the game has to be fast forwarded to catch up to the live feed.  This problem exists only on my Roku devices which leads me to believe it is a Roku issue.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Under "Settings > System > Advanced system Settings > Advanced display settings" some Roku devices have an "Auto-adjust display refresh rate" item.  If you have this setting, and if is enabled, see if turning it off makes any difference.

I am having the exact same issue too with no resolution from the updating refresh rate. I have 500mbps internet. So I know I'm fast enought. Ita just weird it happens during commercials only..

        Hi Mikeja814,

        Greetings from the Roku community!

Thank you for letting us know about this issue on MLBTV.

In some cases, removing the channel and then reinstalling it may help. To ensure the process is successful, follow the steps below, making sure you restart your Roku device before adding the channel again.

        • Remove the channel: Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press the Star button to open the options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
        • Restart your Roku device: Restart the device from the settings menu. Go to Settings > System > System Restart > Restart.
        • Re-install the channel: After your Roku device restarts, visit the Roku Channel Store and add the channel again.

Let us know if this helps you out!

        Regards,

        Rey

Same for me starting this week with MLB on Roku. MLB on android with same internet no problem. Not an issue with other apps on Roku, just MLB

  • I have been having this issue for the past week or so as well.  I have tried all the recommended approaches to no avail.  I have a TCL model 65R655 Roku TV.  Hardware ID J102X. Software version 12.0.0, build 4184-DK. I don't think my model is in the previous posted list so would someone please fix this.  It is bad enough I have to pay for a service I can;t even watch.

        Roku device model: J102X
        serial number: X02100FGUG49
        device ID: S0GV52CGUG49

This issue started around 8/30/23.  We have tried all the steps previously stated in the Roku forum as well as recommended steps by MLB & none have worked.  As stated in the entire thread for this issue, it occurs whenever the ballgame goes to commercial.  Please let me know how you will resolve this.  Thank you.
  • I tried MLB.TV on a chromecast and it works fine.  To test, I have 2 Devices, a chromecast and a Roku, both playing the same game, same wifi network, and the Roku still freezes while the chromecast works fine. This seems to be a Roku problem....

I have done all the things you have suggested several times & on different days.  It DOES NOT WORK!  It is obviously a problem with Roku & different devices accessing the MLB package.  I have several Roku devices in my house.  Some work, some don't.  Some are older some are newer but the fact that my oldest one works but my newest doesn't is a problem.  My main concern is the one I provided my info on which is a ROKU TV & not a separate Roku device.  Please figure out what is going on & get this fixed!  I don't think MLB.tv wants to hear that I won't be ordering their package next year since it won't work on my Roku TV.

  • I assure you this is not just happening on MLB TV! This freezing has occurred on my Smart TV watching several different series including "Bull" and "Cold Case". I have done searches in this forum and there appears to be hundreds if not thousands of reports on this issue (freeze during commercial). It's not getting resolved. I had a chat with tech support and he didn't acknowledge it as known issue. At the end of a 40 minute chat he said: "Sorry, Peter you really need to have Roku device for this kind of issue."
