Weird, since I played the episodes you described in Season 1 (ep. 3 and 5) and the closed-captioning were correct for me on these episodes on the Roku Channel. (US)

Awhile back, the Midsomer Murders episodes were all out of order but seems to be fixed now from a quick glance.  If you have problems watching on Roku Channel, you can watch it on a few other free channels/apps like Filmrise British.
