Not wanting to be annoying about this, but when you removed the channel did you do a system restart? On a Roku TV, that is not just turning it off and back on. Use the Settings/System restart menu option or unplug the TV for at least thirty seconds.
That's the most recent version of RMP, so it's not stuck on an older version. I'm still on 10.5 on my Ultra that's currently in front of me, and I don't see any of this behavior. Hopefully they didn't introduce a problem with RMP in the 11.0 version of the OS. The only Roku I have with 11.0 doesn't have a USB port, so I can't test on that one.
I have the same problem. I have the Roku ultra. I've had it for about 10 years with no issues at all until a few days ago. My RMP stopped recognizing any MP4. I've played these same videos for years but now it doesn't see any of them.

Macwarrior so you can't play an MP4, or it's not even visible in RMP? I haven't had any problem with playing MP4s, so need to understand exactly what you're seeing. Also, are you playing from DLNA server, or are the files on a USB drive connected directly to the Ultra?

I'm using a 2T external hard drive plugged into the UAB. RMP does see anything on the hard drive. I can use it on my other tv (Google tv) but RMP is not seeing any media from my external hd.

Ok, there are reports that OS 11.0 has messed up the USB port when connecting an external hard drive. There's no issue with USB thumb drives, which makes no sense but it is what it is. I do have a portable USB drive with some media on it, so I was going to test my 4800 later today to see if I have the same results.

Pointout. My Roku Ultra is on OS11 and RMP is playing my mp4 files (AVC/AC3 and HEVC/AC3 codecs) just fine. I also was able to play a MKV file with HEVC/DTS. This is from a Toshiba 60GB USB thumb drive. I do have the Roku going directly to my Denon, then to my Sony TV.

OK, I tested my external hard drive, a Western Digital 1 TB drive formatted as NTFS. The only media files on the drive are all DVD rips, so MPEG2 video, AC3 audio and MKV container. Every file I tried played fine. This was with my Ultra 4800 using RMP and 11.0 build 4000something. I don't have the exact build number, as there was an update available after I tested and I went ahead and installed it. My version now is build 5003.
You might check and see if there's a new OS update available for your device. I don't know if b5003 is specific to the Ultra 4800 or if it's good for other devices as well. Perhaps this update will fix the USB issue.

The software update to version 11.0.0 build 4180-04 was done on my 4230X-Roku 3. Since then, Roku Media Player does not recognize any USB drive. There are many threads about this issue. I have used it 4 or 5 times a week without problem and now it is useless. I wish the problem would get fixed. There are at least 4 threads that I have found.

Drae A workaround has been suggested, by formatting your external drive to FAT32. Not workable if you have larger files, but it has worked for a number of users.
It only appears to be affecting the older players, say fourth generation or older. Yours is a third generation, while the latest models are now the tenth generation. Roku is aware of the issue, and hopefully they can determine what needs to be changed to work correctly with the older chipsets.

I'm playing MP4 full length movies on my Western Digital T2 external hard drive. Should I format it to FAT 32 or would it work as is with an upgraded Roku unit?
Thanks ~Jes
