Tried it both ways, neither worked.
This is a server-side provisioning issue/error that impacts HDR (HDR10/HDR10+/DV) playback on ALL HDR-provisioned Hulu client app platforms/devices (RokuOS, FireTV OS, Android/Google TV OS, WebOS, Tizen OS, etc).
You need to contact Hulu CS and inform them of the missing HDR playback.
Otherwise if you have a Disney combo (@ least Disney+ & Hulu) you can watch any/all Hulu content (including HDR) via the D+ app on all platforms.
I was able to add Hulu to my spouse’s Disney account and unsubscribed to Hulu. Yep, it’s all Dolby Vision in there…
Note that not all of Hulu’s content is available in the D+/Hulu: it doesn’t have FX’s Fargo, for one…
I have contacted Hulu three times. The last time was yesterday and I am waiting for their call.
