How to fix 'insufficient power' or 'low power' warning

I'm watching the LSU-CLEMSON game and all of a sudden, my Roku says "insufficient power"..."USB port will not power this Roku." What happened? How do I fix?

  • This is the same problem I’m experiencing. I have it plugged into the wall. At this point I’m going to use the fire stick instead of this hassle. Using the Roku power adapter and HDMI cord. have to reset it and then it works for a few days.

All Roku devices are black so exactly what box are you speaking of?

      Hi Chasy,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're running into! I'd be happy to help take a closer look to see how we can help get you up and running. How are you powering the Roku device? Is the device plugged into the TV USB port or is it plugged into a wall outlet? Have you tried taking a look here in our Support resources and following the steps to help get the insufficient power message to resolve? What to do if the red light is flashing, or you see a "low-power" warning | Official Roku Support

Please keep us posted and we'll continue assisting you from there.

I am also having this problem.  My Roku is plugged into the wall and I'm still getting the low power message.  It's always been plugged into the wall.  I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it is fine for a bit, but then says it again.  I also can't connect to the internet anymore.  I have tried all of the trouble shooting methods in this community.

        Help!

It's possible that something changed on the TV's USB port, and now it's not providing enough power. Have you tried using the power adapter that came with the Roku? Exactly what model Roku do you have? Model number, please, not its name.

There is no help, no solution from ROKU, no cords, no fixes.  My issue was solved with an AMAZON Firestick.  I had two TVs these did not work on; another TV was fine, and one TV was a newer one so who knows!  But other than unplug-replug, there is no solution.  Frustrating and ROKU does not respond.

This is not a problem with where you're putting it this is often a problem the Roku itself but they will not tell you that it's their device on the site. Just unplug it trade in the same port same thing happens try another way to plug it in. Like I said Roku will refuse to take responsibility for their device having an error

  • Same problem on a Roku express 4k. I have tried multiple USB cables with multiple different power sources and a couple different HDMI cables. This error message and the trouble shooting below is obvious bull**bleep**. It's not the cables. When multiple people here, on Reddit and other places have this same problem, it's your **bleep**ing device which is faulty. I just got this thing to replace another which suddenly started running out of space despite not adding anything to it. I am extremely annoyed.

And, this is my 4th Roku since 2017. They have all had bull**bleep** deaths. Your products are a rip off. Switch to a subscription model and use hardware that actually supports using it.

  • Guess what... All you have to do is plug it into a different plug for some reason just doesn't like the plug it was using...

That's the actual outlet plug not the HDMI input...

    BTW.

I don't know what more to tell. It is a device plugged in to TV. Device on each TV, all are blinking. Tried plugging in to different usb port, tried plugging in to wall. This is frustrating, would like a phone number to roku to talk to someone to walk me through.

      Hi April61

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community!

We suggest you try performing a factory reset on your Roku TV and see if that will resolve the issue you're experiencing.

Perform the following steps with your Roku remote or the Roku mobile app.

      1. Press Home on your Roku remote
      2. Scroll and select Settings
      3. Select System
      4. Select Advanced system settings
      5. Select Factory reset
      6. If you have a Roku TV, select Factory reset everything. Otherwise, move to the next step.
      7. Follow the on-screen instructions

You can also try using the physical button to reset your TV. Check out this support link for instructions: How to system restart or factory reset your Roku streaming device

Let us know how it goes.

      All the best,
      Kariza
