How to fix error message 'Not enough space. Please delete some apps and try again'

Hello. I have had a Roku device connected to my small Samsung TV for years and I rarely have had problems, although I had to replace the device already once as it was no longer working, and I could not watch any channels at all.

Lately, I have had the same thing you are describing happen to me but with my Amazon Prime account telling me to free up space etc.

Firstly, I do not know where to find "settings" after pushing my home button. I do not have settings on my screen.

After trying a couple of times to reset the device as suggested, pushing the reset button, even though the button was not marked "reset" on my device, I was successful in hearing some noises coming out of the remote, so something was happening. I tried again opening Prime but the same error message appeared. At this point I unplugged the device, waited, and plugged it in again, and it worked! The old trick of pulling the plug...came through for me this time. I can open the Prime App!

Try it!

What you describe is typically a symptom of the Roku memory cache getting corrupted.  Clearing the memory cache should cure the problem.

The easiest way to do this is to RESTART your Roku.  (For Roku TV users reading this: if you have "Fast TV start" enabled, turning the TV off and back on just puts it into and out of a standby state and does NOT give you a complete restart.)

Depending on your Roku model you'll find the "System restart" option under "Settings > System > Power", or on models without a Power option, under "Settings > System".

If a restart doesn't do it, or if you don't have sufficient control with the remote to navigate the Roku menus, you can also restart by pulling the power plug to the Roku for a few seconds then plugging it back in and waiting for it to restart.

Thank you, this helped. It is still loading slowly though. I deleted a bunch of channels. I was looking for where the remove or delete cache was and couldn't find it. From now on I will use system restart. My concern is why is it still loading so slow.

I have unplugged the HDMI and the power twice. The last time for about 2 minutes and as soon as I plugged it in the message below started showing up in the upper right corner. I did not select any apps and cannot do anything. The screen is black and then it shows the message below.  About 2 minutes ago, since I've been writing this message The screen has gone totally black.

"The app will now restart to free up more memory. "

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I’m getting the same error message and it looks like a LOT of others are too! Sucks because I love Roku and swear by them typically but things like this will definitely lose me as a customer. I’ll give this a try!

  • Im trying to get on YouTube it telling me to free up space and I have about 8 channel deleted and it still won't work

I have been experiencing this issue every couple of days requiring me to restart several time. We've had Roku for years and NEVER experienced this. If we keep having to remove apps, we'll have nothing left. We literally only have 4-5 currently loaded. Why the sudden, frequent error messages?

I have had the same problem recently. I just subscribed to YouTube TV. Sounds like there is an issue with YouTube TV and roku. I had to delete all apps except YouTube TV.

Get it together roku!!! Please look into the issue instead of telling us to restart roku system.

  • Today is June 29th, 2024.  I received the same message, not enough space while trying to upload youtube.   I deleted  several apps and  received same message.   I followed instructions and came here but I found no solutions.

        HELP.

I don't have a solution.   Does anyone know phone for customer service or support for roku?

  • I have had Prime Video for years and today I got a message that there’s not enough room & to delete other channels.  I already have it.  I don’t need to add it.

sharonAD, first try a "System restart" from Settings->System or Settings->System->Power (depending on your model).

You may still have the icon on your Home Screen, but apps are removed to free up space for other apps and then redownloaded the next time they're launched.  You might have the icon, but not the app's package necessary to actually run it.

      Traveling2022-

This typically means that your Roku's memory cache has gotten corrupted, which can prevent the Roku from removing one or more seldom used channels to make room for loading or reloading the channel you've selected.

The easiest way to clear the cache is to restart the Roku using the procedure given by RokuTakashi.  As an alternate, you can pull the power plug for 30 seconds or so then plug the set back in.

  • after my tv did a random factory reset my tv started telling me i dont have enough storage to download apps and to delete some to free up space but the problem is, it deleted all my apps and i now cant get any back. i have tried to restart the tv, unplug the tv, and clearing the cache by pressing the button patterns and nothing has helped.
