How To Block YouTube Ads On Roku

is there a way to watch YouTube with no ads on Roku?

    homebody1966  Thanks for the note. For questions about a channel's features or functionality, you'll want to reach out to that channel provider directly for more information. 

    For YouTube, you may be able to sign into the YouTube channel using a YouTube Premium subscription in order to limit or eliminate ads during playback, but you would need YouTube to confirm whether or not that functionality is supported.     I am telling  that Roku cannot remove ads, only Android system in other streaming devices can. I know that Roku doesn't run Android.

Try this:

Start with Roku Settings
  1. Tap on the Settings option in your Roku home screen.
  2. Next, tap on Privacy, and choose Advertising.
  3. Then you need to tick the box next to Limit Ad Tracking.
  4. Finally, restart your Roku device.

    did that. didnt notice any difference. really wanted political ads to go.

      loufuddrucker3 I have YouTube Premium and I don’t see ads on my Roku. Purchased it long before I got a Roku since it works on everything I’m signed into, Chrome, Chromecast and etc.

        Dear All:  

        I am interested in knowing for certain IF i were to get a youtube PREMIUM account for around $11/month, whether i will have NO ads when using the youtube channel on my two Roku Ultras connected to the two TVs in my home.

        may i please kindly ask for a definitive answer?  thank you all in advance.

    This is not available on my device. The only check box is to remove personalization from ads. I wonder if that was a change that was made or if it is specific to a particular device.

    1) you have to be youtube premium already,

    2) follow the advice of "Cpt1nsano":

      That's from creature earlier in the thread.  I did this, and it seems to have stopped having to click past an ad every 3 min.  Thanks!

        I found that more is needed if YouTube on Roku decides it is time to hit you with more ads:

        In addition to Limit ad tracking, also click Reset advertising identifier (located in the same Roku Settings menu)

        Next, in the YouTube app itself, make sure the icon in the upper left corner says "Sign in" under it.  If it doesn't then select the upper right icon to then choose to log out of each account.  Make sure you are only a "guest" of YouTube.

        Next, also in the YouTube app itself, go down to the Settings icon (the gear) and then under Link TV & Phone should be "Linked Device."  Once you highlight that menu item, it should say "There are no devices linked to this device."  Otherwise unlink all devices.

        Then, also under Settings, go to the History & Data section and "Clear watch history" and "Clear search history."  Also in the same section, go to "Improve YouTube' and set it to Off.

        Doing all of this does *NOT* block ads but I find after doing all this the ads are just as frequent on Roku as they are in Chrome on a computer.

        As a side note, some YouTube videos have ads more frequently than others.  If an YouTube video on Roku has ads every 3 minutes then watching the same exact video on Windows 10 will also be every 3 minutes.  If it really is more frequent on Roku then try everything I suggested above.

    Only with android 10 with apk applications we can eliminate youtube ads. Roku not have nothing for this problem. Amazon Stick, Goggle new Chromecast etc its better than Roku in this issue.

      Roku doesn't run on Android, so APKs can't be installed.

    Limit ad tracking option is no longer available.  It has been replaced with the option personalize ads option.
