How can I install a new channel?

Welcome,

How could I install other streaming channels? Other than Netflix and YouTube, which came pre-installed. All channels shown in my Roku account have the install option disabled. Also, in the Streaming Store on the device there are only unknown applications, nothing that can be used in the European Union.

Regards

  • Where are you located?

Not every channel is available in every country on Roku, even if that channel is available on other devices. Channel availability is determined by the channel operator, not Roku. Many channel operators only offer their channel in countries where Roku is sold officially. Outside of those countries, channels may or may not work.

      Romania (European Union)

If you basically won't let me install any streaming channels from the Roku web page... what's the point of showing them to me? ... This only makes me angry and makes me realize that I bought a very little useful product from my point of view.
In fact, this blocking of application installation is illegal in the European Union. The regulations of the European Union say that if I have purchased a streaming service in Germany or France, I have the right to use it in Romania or Hungary under the same conditions ... so the availability of applications depending on the country is not legal at the level of the European Union
Roku devices are officially available in the big stores in Romania and other EU countries.

I am not a Roku employee, just trying to explain the situation.

As far as I can discover, the Roku device is not officially sold in Romania. Apologies if this is a recent change. If you purchased it new in Romania, it may have been shipped by a third-party from another country. And if that was the case, then the Roku may be hard-coded to only work properly in the country for which it was originally intended.

Except for the Roku Channel, Roku only provides the hardware. Each channel is provided by the channel owners and they decide where to support it. This is often the result of licensing agreements for content.

So while the hardware will work most anywhere, many applications will not.
