I have a decent home theater system that includes a 5.1 surround system using high quality Definitive Tech speakers. I find it odd that this channel hasn't updated in ages, is extremely slow and delivers the worst quality audio of any. The fact that Tubi's audio is superior and by default is STEREO, makes it worse. What sort of issues have been reported? And what can be done about the audio? I use Pass through audio and my AVR supports all Dolby formats including Atmos. Thanks

jontalk  Warner Media is responsible for the development and updating of HBO Max. Not Roku. Warner Media recently bought Discovery and will be combining Discovery+ into HBO Max. I’m sure they’re working on an updated channel. But no one in Roku’s can give you the answer because it’s not up to them

Thanks my friend and I'm aware Roku has nothing to do with channel updates though I'm assuming they make all channel developers aware of firmware updates. Having done a Google search on HBO Max audio problems, it appears its been going on for quite some time making their failure to update the channel tech obvious

  • I have a client with Roku express device. Model 3930RW. He had issues in May with his HBO Max. We have done every troubleshooting option about 15 times each. None worked and then we're told it was an update on HBO Max side. It worked for a few weeks maybe month and hasn't worked in the past 2 weeks. We have tried updating the Roku software, removing and adding back the channel, restarting device, reset internet connection, checked internet speeds. Everything is fine and all other channels work except this one. Contacted HBO max and was advised this is not an issue on their end and was told to contact Roku. I personally have a roku TV and do not have these issues at all. My client is able to watch on his tablet so it's not an issue with the HBO max and I am wondering if it is a compatibility issue and just isn't supported for the device. We don't want to upgrade if the same issues would happen.

      Thanks for the post.

In order to ensure a clean channel install, please make sure to remove the channel, restart the Roku device, then add the channel back again, specifically in that order.

Please keep us posted what you find out.

      Thanks,
      Danny

I have done that sometimes multiples times in a row. We also removed it completely restarted it and waited a day to reinstall after another restart. I have literally followed all trouble shooting at least 30 to 40 times in the last several weeks and it still isn't working for the device.

Is it still having Playback issues? I have installed and R/R it several times and each time it will not load once you click on the icon. When it launches I get the logo then 3 dots across the bottom, then a black screen.

It also never charges my cc when I download it.

  • I still can’t use HBO Max on my Roku devise after multiple troubleshooting attempts and resets…. Any tips ?

Install it on Apple TV, works great. Roku has a big issue with HBO, I never got it to work even after performing R/R several times.

Interestingly enough, it started working again with no input from me?????  I am unable to explain what was the solution was as in the previous time, last year it abruptly stopped working and similarly started working again.

  • HBO!! i guess thats purely US customers? i dont know why you do not provide these channels in the UK but its about time you did give us something new other than telagu/pakistain/mumbo jumbo channels in the UK. Also how about an update on the software more than once a year? i take it these are android based streaming devices?? do you know about exploits/vulnerabilities??

so to summise, give us Hulu, HBO, Tubi, etc and get your software upto date! oh and fix france24 channel which keeps switching itself back to menu randomly, not like i havent clicked the * button and reported it over a hundred times already...

as for recommending your device to others...nahhhh mate, its junk!

uselessrouk, you have so much wrong that I'm not going to waste my time addressing them, but first and foremost ROKU IS NOT ANDROID!

  • Does this apply to the new “Max” channel? When I’m watch something, in the beginning of the show, my screen freezes but audio keeps going for a few seconds. Then everything catches up and plays fine, but it happens every episode. While watching a series the “continue watching” feature doesn’t work when I watch Max through my Roku. I don’t have these issues when I watch Max on a different device.
