CBC Gem disconnecting after 30 minutes

I see that CBC has changed to CBC Gem on Roku but can somebody please tell me why it keeps going back to the main screen after about 20 or 30 minutes?  This never happened before and it only happens on CBC Gem.  It's making it really frustrating to watch TV as I have to keep going back to choose live TV and then the channel.  Sometimes as well, I even have to re-log into my Roku account.

Regarding this, it might be a better option to contact the channel provider directly and let them know about the experience you had with their channels. Most channels on the Roku platform are designed, maintained, and developed by the channel providersthemselves.

    Please be informed that we're aware of the issue, and the CBC Gem channel is doing its best to resolve this. Additionally, services offered by channel partners across multiple platforms have different designs and development. Thus, it may work on your mobile devices, but the Roku channel version may have issues that need to be fixed or updated by them.

  • Having the same issue. CBC Gem “times out” after 30 minutes, and sometimes asks me to log in again. Did not experience any of this before the change from CBC to CBC Gem.

    Greetings from the Roku Community!

    We understand you are having trouble playing a channel. Please be advised that removing a channel and then reinstalling it may help in some cases. To ensure the process is successful, follow the steps below, making sure you restart your Roku device before adding the channel again.

    • Remove the channel. Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press the Star button on your Roku remote to open the Options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
    • Restart your Roku device: Home > Settings > System > Power. "If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step." System restart.
    • Reinstall the channel. Visit the Roku Channel Store and add the channel again.

      CBC Gem is disconnecting after one hour every time.  I did remove and re add the channel and it is still doing this.  

      It is also making me SIGN IN  every day when i go to open the channel.  It is quite frustrating to sign in every time you click on it, and then in the middle of a program it shuts off at the one hour mark.  

      If it is going to do this, then put it back to the CBC the way it was until they can fix the errors.

        I,thought I had it fixed. But seems GEM engineers either bumped me off or have worsened the problem. Imammbaxk ro having to log in each time I want to see this channel again. I hope they figure  this out soon.

      I have the same problem in all my roku players. Checked with cbc and they had me do all these suggested fixes but it still closes itself  I'm glad to see it's not just me but I sure would love to find a fix except I'm wondering if gem isn't what needs fixing now that I've done all of their (and your) suggestions. Any idea would be great since if we want cbc at all now we have to use gem

        Yes, and now it's telling me that the same program I watched just last night is not available for live stream. Come on CBC and Roku - get your act together!  We want to watch your channel!

    I have a similar problem - it consistently bumps me off after 45 or 46 minutes.   Also, I am asked to login each day.  This only started recently after Roku changed the CBC menu.

    It is strange that Roku is blaming CBC Gem.  CBC Gem on my phone works with no problem, I only see it on my Roku stick since Roku changed up the menu to Gem.  Work together to fix it folks.

      Roku is correct in saying it's cbc who has to fix the issue  the reason it works on tablets and phones js this error is specific to roku  I had emailed cbc about the issue I put an update on here if you would like to read it but cbc admits they have an error somewhere in the app for roku. Bottom line they said they are aware of the issue and are trying to find the error  once they find where the error is they will fix it but couldn't give a timeline as until they find the error there is no way of knowing. I will post any updated info i receive from cbc

  • I have watched Gem on my computer for a long time to watch live TV and streaming, it never shut off, nor did CBC on Roku. I was happy to see Roku upgraded to Gem but I am not very pleased with how it works.  It shuts off on the live TV and the streaming, mine last about 50 minutes.  It's so frustrating to have to have to scroll over to the live channel, takes so much time and by that time I missed some of the show.  However, it's so frustrating is having to sign in with my password every time I use Gem. I don't have to do that with Prime or Netflix.

    Mine kept making me login every time I chose the gem channel. And then would regularly lock me out. gem finally admitted their app was dysfunctional after they reformatted. No, Solutions offered by them. Told me to check with roku. After deleting and reinstalling a number of times, I finally went online. I logged into my gem account online.  Once logged in I was asked to enter the code that was on my Roku screen. I entered the code. And now I  can access all content on my gem on roku. Let’s hope this continues.  No thanks to GEM support

      Well I think you are onto something there.  I went on Roku, opened my GEM and when it asked me to sign in instead I clicked on the sign in with a code to your GEM account, in upper screen on left.  I clicked on that and the activation site appears for cbc, and a code.

      Thank i did the sign into GEM on my phone app, signed in there, and the request for code came up, put it in and it paired with my GEM channel on Roku.  This should solve the issue.  You are right they made the change and didnt give any instructions on how to run it.

        Glad,I could help. Now maybe I need to teach GEM some tech skills.
