Can't access my MGM+ free trial on my smart tv, which has my Roku Channel but no Roku device

Do I have to have a Roku device on my smart TV in order to access "MGM+ on Roku"?

    The Roku Channel app on a non-Roku device gets only the free content from The Roku Channel itself.  It does not provide access to additional premium subscriptions.

    I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but "The Roku Channel" on any device is not a substitute for a Roku device by any stretch of the imagination.
