Byutv app no longer works

I have read some of the recent issues regards to a channel that no longer works. Every recommendation to fix the issue I have done and has failed. After corresponding with Byutv back and forth and providing the information with them, here is their recent reply. I don’t understand what their asking or even where to locate the information:

It looks like those numbers aren't connected to our app.  Our current version is 5.59.  Roku reports the version as 5.19.  Can you find those numbers anywhere?

They're probably referring to the version number of the channel/app.  Highlight the icon on the Home Screen and press * on your Roku remote.  You should see the version number displayed in the popup.  I just added it and it looks like it was just updated a few days ago judging by the build.  Mine shows:  Version 5.59 build 20230808

If yours doesn't show version 5.59, try a "Software update" located under Settings->System.  It would also help to know the model number of your Roku device displayed under Settings->System->About.

Mine is having the same issue. Even after the software update, the version still shows as 5.12. I've restarted the device, uninstalled and reinstalled the channel, but nothing seems to fix the issue of not updating

cparkr80, since happymom123 never answered, what is the model number of your Roku device displayed under Settings->System->About?

I too have the same error. No matter what I do I can’t get a version higher than 5.12. I have to buy a more updated version of the Roku deviceI guess. Very frustrating.

  • My device is routed and I'm unable to update the app as well. Is there any evg restriction for the devices that are routed because I'm unable to do so?

      Hi marshray48,

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community!
We're glad to assist you with your problem with streaming BYUtv on Roku. What Roku device are you using right now? (e.g., Roku Express, Roku Streambar, Roku TV—specify TV) Have you tried removing the channel, restarting the system, and re-adding the channel? Please check here on how to resolve a channel playback issue.

Let us know how it goes, and we'll be happy to assist you further.

      Kind regards,

      Eunice

Same problem here today drove me to this site and thread.  After reading abt Roku devices perhaps not supported, and/or app(s) not supported by certain devices, I explored such on our 2 Rokus.  Indeed, found our older device, Model 2710X (software ver 11.0.0, build 4195-06) will not load an updated BYUtv app (current app is ver 5.12, build 20220818).  Additionally, "old" LDS Channel would not work today (so I deleted it and have no ver/build numbers to report here), and the replacement app (Gospel Stream) would not download and appear in the channel list.  No cures were realized regardless of trials of deleting, updating (both apps and device), rebooting, unpowering/repowering using this older device.

However, the newer device (3930RW, Roku Express, sw 12.0.0, build 4184-AE) DOES play both of these apps now that they have been updated/downloaded by accessing my Roku acc't online.  BYUtv is ver 5.61, build 20230923; Gospel Stream is ver 1.3, build 405.  The bottom line:  the app owners are now supplying versions which are incompatible w/ at least some models of Roku devices; welcome to the world of planned obsolescence.  HTH, Robert

Not sure if this works on every ROKU, but on my 4800X deleting and reinstalling the Byutv App solved the problem. Pete

I have tried that many times with uninstalling and reinstalling the app and it still does not work. I had no problems with the app a couple of months ago. I am still waiting for them to get back to me. Even they can't figure out what's going on.
