I come (all be it late) with a whole 2 solutions not just one
I've been having the same issues as others here
Iplayer goes to the splash screen
Then goes blank for a short period
Then shows the splash screen again.
It then either hangs entirely stuck on the splash screen or stays with the splash screen but loads a browser style sidebar.
I've found 2 solutions- The BBC recommended one on their website for an entirely different Roku issue
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/questions/smart-tv-and-games-console-issues/roku-nowtv-aspect-ratio
Change the Roku to 720p........ I don't know why it works. I don't know how it works but I think the BBC Iplayer has different landing pages for different resolutions and the 1080p landing page is somewhat buggy or broken. This would also explain potentially why 1 Roku on 1 TV would work but another on another TV won't, because if the TV is 720p then the Roku will have defaulted to that - weird work around - Open the Roku app on your mobile phone and load the Iplayer app from there (from a fresh restart). That has opened most times for me or select an Iplayer / BBC show from the recommendations list and it will load Iplayer, start playing the show then press back and you're at the Iplayer Menu.
I'm putting this in the BBC have screwed something up box but I doubt they'll actually admit it, the problem will just be quietly fixed in an update in March or something lol
