Apple TV app not working or loading in

I bought this tv back in November & I can not get Apple TV app to load. It just constantly spins like it’s trying to load. I have done all trouble shooting, even called Apple & Roku with no help; pretty much just blaming the other company. I even did a factory reset on tv. Every other app workings perfectly. Please help 😅

  • Hey, Theopholus.

    Thanks for sharing this!

We noticed that you're also experiencing trouble with Apple TV, and we're here to help out.

Adding and reinstalling the app immediately will sometimes cause the issue to persist, to make sure that there are no steps left undone.

    Try these:

    1. Remove the channel: Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press Star to open the Options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
    2. Restart your Roku device (Important step before adding the app): Go to Settings > System > Power > System restart > Restart Now.
    3. Reinstall the channel: After your Roku device restarts, visit the Roku Streaming Store and add the channel again.

Let us know if that works!

  • I’m having the same problem on my Roku tv. The app will just sit on the Apple logo. Other apps work fine. Occasionally it’ll give an error (I don’t have the exact error right now). Everything has been updated/checked for updates and restarted a bunch of times. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple app. It doesn’t help.

Yeah, these steps have not helped at all.

  • Did this happen to anyone else in the last week?  My appletv app will not work, but all other roku apps work fine. When trying to open the apple tv app it will not load the videos, tap on trouble shoot and it shows no errors yet its constantly the load screen. I have deleted and reloaded apple tv app. Checked for updates. Logged out and relogged in.

the apple tv app is working on my appletv just fine, it seems to be the app issue in the past week.

thanks in advance for any thoughts

        Hi everyone!

Thanks for hanging in there while we work on this! Are you still having issues with the Apple TV app? If so, when did it start? Also, could you check which version of the Apple TV app you have? Just highlight the app, hit the star (*) button, and select 'Check for Updates.'

And don’t forget to let us know the software version of the Roku device. You can find that by going to Settings > System > Software Update > Check Now. Thanks!

I've recently had this issue when launching the apple tv on roku, it just spins forever. I tried everything including network connection resets, reboots, factory reset on the roku, different network connections, etc.  For me, it worked in one location but not at a second location I watched at.  I was able to fix it by updating to a different dns setting on my router (it usually defaults to the ISP default, which may not be great)

This fixed it for me.  Keep in mind, if you can get a prompt to login to apple tv this will not help.  But, if you open the Apple Tv app on roku and it just spins forever (may error out) it is highly likely the dns is not resolving correctly to Apple IP's.... good luck!

Go into your wifi router settings and update to google's dns server.

    Primary DNS 8.8.8.8

    Secondary DNS 8.8.1.1.

Save the changes, a router reboot maybe needed.
