Custom pictures for video files

How to display custom pictures for each individual video files when listed on Roku Media player USB drive instead of the same generic icon for all of my video files?

Re: Custom pictures for video files

Interesting question.

So youre suggesting to make the icon more useful by displaying a

snapshot of whatever the Movie or Video is.

I think thats an excellent Feature request.

add 16:9 ratio pics with the same name as the filename. Example. MOVIE.mp4 MOVIE.jpg.

For FOLDER thumbnails you use 16:9 ratio image named FOLDER.jpg

I'm trying to figure if you can add a thumbnail for a playlist.m3u file

      Good Job!

It would be nice if the developers wrote a script to automate this.

Having trouble setting folder icons images in roku media player. They just do not show up no matter what I try.

I think what frustrates me is I use a 3rd party app (tag editor) to put the exact picture I want displayed as a Thumbnail on my videos.  They look fine in Windows Explorer, but do not display in the ROKU Media Player.  I just want it to display what I've already added as the cover.

Have you found a way to make this work or another app it works on. I also have the same problem i can't find any app that shows the photo of the movie or tv show folder like it does on windows ughhh lol

  • This is already possible. Save a picture file as the same name as the video file. Must be .jpg format and also must be in the same folder as the video file.

Ben, how do you then get the image to show for the folder as well? Not just on top of the video?

You can't put a picture over a folder. There is no thumbnail coding for that currently. Only files inside the folder.

  • I, too, am interested in this feature, and found this request in a Duck Duck Go search.  My suggestion is that any folder with videos can have a user-generated sub-folder named "TH", and Roku could search for a thumbnail in jpg format that matches the name of the video's filename.  (Or, either jpg or PNG with jpg having the higher priority.)

An optional feature could be a menu option for a title that lets Roku auto-create a thumbnail for videos, and the app would create the TH folder and a screenshot for the thumbnail.  But I think that user-control over the files is paramount.

I would love this feature, which would make my thousands of video files so much more easier to browse.

It would even make browsing audio files easier.

Please consider such a feature in a future update to Roku Media Player.
