Just a thought for a future enhancement I use the headphone feature of my remote to watch tv at night. Normally, watch in low light. It can be hard to see the buttons on the remote, would be great if they would light up so they could be seen in low light.

Besides, with my eyesight, I couldn't read the buttons even if they were backlit unless I grabbed my reading glasses. And I don't keep them with me in bed. :P
Having an easy to reach button to light the others up sounds like a good idea. I had not thought about it, but if the buttons were lit up all the time, might drain the battery.
We've had a Roku device for years and now a Roku TV... And I can agree that the biggest inconvenience is when I have to shine the light from my phone onto the remote just to see what I'm pressing. It's now almost 2020...so where's this remote option???

AGREE!!! or at least list compatible remotes that DO have a backlit feature. Don't most folks watch movies with the lights turned down? C'mon Roku!!!
Insane that there isn't a backlight remote for Roku sticks. So far I have found the voice option unhelpful since I can't find the button in the dark anyway.

It's frankly astonishing that Roku still doesn't offer a backlit remote - not even with my $100 Ultra!
In 2020, I should not have to keep a flashlight by my side or turn on a floor lamp just to see the remote.
At least sell a backlit remote as an accessory.
I finally gave up and purchased a remote that someone else on this thread recommended. It allows me to dump the Roku remote entirely and DOES have a backlight feature. Now I wish it had voice control haha:

I'm aware that I can buy a separate remote - and the model you highlighted is a good one - I just wonder why I should have to. And Roku won't even sell a backlit remote as an accessory.
In my experience, when companies don't do something that they easily could do and for which customers are clamoring, there's almost always a reason. People have been bugging Roku for a backlit remote for years. There's some reason why they're not doing it.
The Roku app has a competent remote, although not as fully featured as the physical remote.
