[Solved] Issue with the Live OTA channel

Hey everyone!

We're aware of an issue impacting some Roku TVs and the screensaver feature. On a subset of devices, some customers may see the screensaver start while viewing live TV or watching TV using their antenna.

Status Update 3/3: We’re rolling out a fix over the next few days, and it should be resolved "within a few days." Please keep an eye out for a manual update, and once your device updates, the issue should be fixed.

Just a heads up, your software version won’t change after the update.

Thanks for hanging in there!

  • This problem just started yesterday. It's happening during over-the-air TV broadcasts. I'm not sure if it'll also happen when I'm streaming.

So far, I've tried every suggestion I've found online (here and elsewhere) except a total factory reset and a network reset.

March 3, 2025 Update - at the suggestion of Roku telephone support, I did a full factory reset. That worked that day but problem started again the next day when I turned on the TV.  Thank goodness that Roku has noted this problem so many of us are having and has vowed to fix it. I'm hoping for the best. In the meantime,  I've turned off the screensaver until the problem is fixed.

Oh my gosh, I’m having the same issue. I’m watching OTA tv and the show suddenly goes to the Roku screensaver. It started on my tv last night (Feb. 28) as well.

I spent an hour on the phone with TCL today, re-setting everything. It lasted for 4 hours but then started again. It comes back on if I push the arrows on the remote.

      any ideas???

Same here.  Problem started today.  After exactly 10 minutes of watching antenna TV the screen goes black for a second and then switches to the home screen.  Mine is 2–3-year-old 65 inch TCL Roku tv running software version 14.1.4nBuild:7709.  Works fine streaming content.  Hope TCL/Roku fixes it soon, it's annoying.

This needs to be fixed. It is very annoying and causes me to miss parts of my programs. This just started a few days ago, about when some new screen saver/Home Screen display started. They must be related. I have tried all the listed suggested fixes, except for system reset, and none have worked. I also removed and readded the antenna connections both logically and physically to no avail. Could you Roku folks please fix this obvious bug. It is making me regret getting a Roku tv. My dumb tvs with antenna and a Roku stick have no issues.

I am also experiencing this bug on my 65" TCL.  I've always had the digital clock as my screensaver and it now pops up while watching OTA TV when it shouldn't be.  This started happening around the same time I noticed that there are large "channel boxes" in the top half of the screen when looking at the TV guide.  Clearly, the update removed the status check that the screensaver does to know whether to start or not.

I have 3 Roku tv's, only one seems to be affected by this bug... I have another tv that I use outside on my patio that is not in use currently, I think I'm going to see if it is also affected...... I'm glad that they found the issue, and have a fix for it, had me thinking I was going crazy for a minute or two......

Will they notify us if/when the problem is fixed?  I checked for available updates and there are none so far.

That's good to hear.  I have an issue with streaming from an app.  Do you know the reason why after 3 or 4 hours of streaming a series on PRIME, the tv goes to the home screen even when there are plenty more seasons and episodes left to watch?  It stopped doing that for awhile but now it has returned. It used to go to the screensaver but I have disabled that.  I am one of those people that falls asleep with the TV on.  I get up most times in the night and I am able to fall back to sleep while watching or listening to the TV.

  • My Roku tv TCL 65 inch 6 series 4K UHD Dolby Vision HDR QLED Roku smart tv 65R635 2021 Model keeps going to the home screen (pink screen) when I watch local channels with an antenna. This just started yesterday. I have unplugged the tv, detached the antenna and reconnected, tried to use an alternate antenna (same result), ensured the tv was updated, rescanned for local channels. I am completely unsure what to do at this point. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have unplugged the 65" TLC QLED tv and the Roku and plugged them back in and restated the system and turned off the 4 hour shut down feature and my Roku still shut off to the intermission screen after about 10-15 while watching tv of the antenna.

demccord, it seems to be a new bug Roku recently introduced.  Try disabling the screensaver in the Theme settings.

  • The OTA channel guide issue is NOT solved.  It's not a screensaver issue so Mary the Bot is wrong again.
