[Solved ] Hulu Live Recordings Freezing

We know some of you had trouble with Hulu Live recordings freezing during playback.

    1-28-25

    I have several Roku devises and all are freezing when playing back a recorded HULU program.  I also have a smart TV which is not a Roku product, and it is NOT freezing when playing back a HULU recording.  As a result, it appears the freezing problem lies with Roku.  Please advise with a fix to the HULU recorded playback freezing.

      Having same issue on roku tvs with hulu.  Playback freezing.  Issue doesn't happen on non roku devices.

        Exact same issue, exact same symptoms, as described by others on 3 different Roku devices.  First noticed on 01/28/25 - the first time I had tried to watch a recorded show in about a week or more.  Thought it might have been the device but it happened on a second and third Roku device today also.

      Watching live programs via My Stuff are freezing. I’m unable to use any keys on the remote to back out and have to shut off the TV. Appears to only be happening when accessing programming via My Stuff. I have performed all the updates and it has not resolved the issue.  The issue occurred using two different streaming sticks…a. 3500 and a 3820x.

        We are glad to have you here sharing about the issue you are experiencing with Hulu Live recordings. This has been coordinated with our Roku team for investigation. Rest assured, we will update you once we have additional information about this matter.

        If you haven't sent your Roku device information yet, please provide us with the following:

        • Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and OS version. (this can all be found in Settings > System > About)
        • Tracker ID (press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID)
        • Channel build version (highlight the channel and press the star (*) button of your Roku remote)
        • Troubleshooting steps taken

        We look forward to your response.

      I am having this exact problem also.  I've given up on watching recorded HULU shows

        It is definitely a ROKU problem.  I can play back the same recorded HULU shows that fail on ROKU by connecting a PC running HULU to my TV via HDMI.  This bypasses the ROKU HULU app.

    • Your device model
    • OS version
    • Hulu app version
    • Tracker ID (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID)
    • Which specific content you’re experiencing the issue with

    This will help us narrow things down faster! We’ll mark this post as solved for visibility and to help others who might be dealing with the same thing. Thanks for your patience as we work on a fix!

      Watching My Stuff on Hulu. Picture froze 10 times within an hour.  Each time reverts to the Roku Home Screen.  This started happening to me 4 days ago.  I have 3 different Ultra’s and it has happened on all three.  
      Here are todays codes:

      Device model # 4660x Roku Ultra

      This Issue still persist 5 days now. All recordings in my stuff in Hulu Continue to freeze after about five minutes and go goes back to home screen.

      Should not take this long to figure out this issue.

        I have the same issue; Hulu isn't responding to chat on the 'freeze' subject.

    An update was available for the app. The update rolled back to 6.90. No issues on this version, just 6.91. If you are having issues, try updating the app to the prior version.

      Thank you for posting the information about HULU rolling back it's update from 6.1 to 6.0.  I checked Hulu and the update has been rolled back to 6.0 then ran one of my recordings ( the KC chiefs vs Buffalo Bills game) and it played without a glitch. 

      Thank you Roku and Hulu for working together to analyze the problem and figuring out the fix.

        My Hulu app is 6.9 and when I check for updates it says the app is up to date. is anyone else seeing this?

    The Hulu App will freeze or CORE 

    1. streaming any video ( recorded or not recorded )
    2. Trying to switch Profiles.

    This morning I was able to watch 1 video, after that, crashes every 3 - 5 minutes of streaming.

    When app Freezes: only recourse is to unplug Roku.

    When app COREs: app closes unexpectedly, returns to Roku Home page,  Hulu does not update segments watched

    Hulu Live is not having an issue, although a few days ago live kept refreshing from time to time. (maybe related?)

    Disney+ ( Hulu is owned by Disney), no issues.

    Hulu on PC works fine.

      I have had both situations where it freezes and I've had to unplug it and COREs where it slows down and app closes and takes me back to Roku.

      We're having the same problem!

      On our older Roku stick it'll crash back to the Roku home screen.

      On the newer Roku stick the video will stop but the sound will continue but everything becomes completely unresponsive on the roku!

    I'm having the exact same issue. My live TV works fine, however, when I try to play a program back from recorded programming it will play for only a couple of minutes before freezing and ultimately causing the Roku to reboot completely.

    I’m having the same freezing issues while trying to watch recorded content on Hulu live. 
    My Roku info:

    model 3820RW - streaming stick 4K

    version 14.1.4

    tracker no. ID YU-043-336

    Hulu version 6.91

    specific content is Jesse Watters Primetime on FNC.

    Abbott Elementary season 4 episode 12 ABC

    this happens on every item on my stuff for the past several days.  In this 22 minute show, it has already ceased 3 times and it’s not over
